Thunder Valley CDC Northeast Area Plan & Playground
As part of a larger regional sustainability plan created by the Oglala Lakota Nation, the Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation (TVCDC) is proceeding with the third phase of developing a Model Regenerative Community on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. To facilitate the development of the next phase which includes office and commercial facilities, I worked in tandem with TVCDC staff to produce a site design and conceptual building renderings that will provide documentation for their New Markets Tax Credits application process and to see additional development partnerships.

The project outcome is considerate of the existing typologies developed by Pyatt Studio and BNIM Architects as well as appropriate material articulation for the early stages of a community engagement process. The site is intended to allow for as much green space and visual permeability as possible relative to the programmatic needs of the new development. Additionally, the building forms and material stratification are intended to subtly mimic the sporadic peaks of the surrounding Badlands with their distinctive sediment variation.
Site design features and infrastructure are likely to begin construction in Summer 2019.
